From our 2015 Outlive Yourself Awards Media Sponsor: CBS 11/TXA 21
Organ donation has touched the CBS 11/TXA 21 family in a very personal way. Two years before she joined our team, CBS 11 News Reporter Elizabeth Dinh was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy. It was November 2010, right before Thanksgiving and both of her kidneys were failing. Only 30 years old at the time, the words “kidney disease” were frightening to Elizabeth -- and to her family. She was working at a TV station in Seattle, a very long way from her native North Texas, her parents and her six brothers. Suddenly, she went from being ready to take on the world to wondering whether she would be alive to do it. Her kidneys were functioning at just 13%. Fortunately, Elizabeth’s husband, Kevin, was a suitable match, and in June 2012, he donated one of his kidneys to her. Today, Elizabeth is healthy and has an even greater appreciation for life and for the selfless gift she received. We think she is a wonderful testament to the importance of registering as an organ donor.
