I walked through the halls of Nora’s Home, visiting with staff and families. The phrase, “I don’t have words to say except, thank you…” welcomed me over and over again. Humbled, all I could do was smile.
As a contributor, Taylor’s Gift Foundation was invited to the “Grand Opening and Gala Kick-Off Event” that took place on February 12th to celebrate the official grand opening of Nora’s Home in Houston, Texas.

At one point during the evening, roughly 200 people gathered to share stories, take tours of the facility, and enjoy each other’s company. “Clutch”, the Houston Rockets’ mascot, made an appearance in his Donate Life uniform while a group performed songs of celebration and Executive Director, Kayla Lehmann thanked everyone for attending.
She introduced many that had helped make the dream come true and introduced the Gaber family, Nora’s parents who had the spark to set this home in motion after the heartache of losing their daughter, but helping others through donating her organs.
It was a true celebration for the gift of life.
A Real Need
Several area families that are in need of a transplant will travel to Houston for their surgery. Many times, those families won’t have a place to stay or the financial resources to afford the days or weeks at a hotel. That’s where Nora’s Home and the Adopt-a-Family program can help.
As a part of our Legacy Gift program serving Texas, we have made a three year commitment to pay for families to stay at Nora’s Home. It is a wonderful way to help support our mission to Regift Life, Renew Health, and Restore Families.
Honored to Help
The Family Room of Nora’s Home is named in honor of Taylor’s Gift Foundation. Knowing that families will gather, share stories, support each other, and begin their new journey in this room is part of the ‘Outlive Yourself’ spirit that fuels our efforts.
I was fortunate to meet with three families that were staying at Nora’s Home during my visit. Each family was from outside of the Houston area, and the hope that Nora’s Home provided them during their transplant journey was palatable. We shared family stories, laughed about our children, and discussed the future.
Thank you to everyone that supports our continued efforts. It is with your contributions that we are able to continue our Legacy Gift program and help those touched by organ donation.
