Announcing the Winners of the 2016 Taylor's Gift Scholarship Presented by NIKE North America Merchandising

Since January, the Taylor’s Gift Foundation team has been accepting applicants for our 2016 Taylor’s Gift Foundation Scholarship Presented by NIKE North America Merchandising and after the application deadline closed towards the end of April, we had received a record number of applicants!

Over 300 individuals from all across the nation applied to win one of five scholarships, two of which would be awarded to two students from Coppell and New Tech High Schools in Coppell, Texas. The remaining three scholarships would be dispersed to three stand-out students from across the nation. We are so excited to announce the winners of the 2016 Taylor’s Gift Foundation Scholarship Presented by NIKE North America Merchandising!

Josefina Mendez is a Newtown High School graduate and is from Newtown, Connecticut. She will be attending Yale university in the Fall. 

What does "Outlive Yourself" mean to you?

"Outlive Yourself" is the spirit of kindness to others, as beautifully phrased by Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Brontae Williamson is a graduate of Henry Ford Academy and is from Dearborn, Michigan. She will be attending the College for Creative Studies in the Fall. 

What does "Outlive Yourself" mean to you?

To me, "outlive yourself" means to pass on a piece of yourself, your passions, and your story to others so that they can live a happier and healthier life in the future. It means being that one person who makes a difference and who inspires a 'ripple effect' that causes change to people's point of view of the world, motivates people to have empathy for others, and encourages them to give back to their community. Outliving yourself is teaching others to love and help people regardless of who they are and showing others that kindness comes with its own everlasting rewards.

Taylor Campos is a graduate from Lemont Township High School in Lemont, Illinois. She will be attending the University of Chicago in the Fall. 

What does "Outlive Yourself" mean to you?

To outlive yourself is to have more of an impact on others' lives than your on your own life -- focusing solely on yourself will indeed produce one enjoyable life, but focusing on others will produce thousands of quality lives.

McKenna Lines is a graduate of Coppell High School in Coppell, Texas. She will be attending the University of Oklahoma in the Fall. 
 
What does "Outlive Yourself" mean to you?
I'm truly honored to have received this award for the Taylor's Gift Foundation. "Outlive Yourself" is an inspirational motto, and it has impacted so many lives. I am blessed to be recognized by such a wonderful organization.

Melissa Cannon is a graduate of New Tech High School in Coppell, Texas. She will be attending Texas Christian University in the Fall. 
 
What does "Outlive Yourself" mean to you?
For me, to outlive yourself means to not only do what's best for the happiness of yourself, but to touch the lives of every person around you through the joy you find in the simplest things in life. 
 

 
Thanks again to all of our applicants for applying for the Taylor's Gift Scholarship Presented by NIKE North America Merchandising! We were so very inspired by the academic and personal achievements of all of the applicants and are excited for the 2017 scholarship search!
